Just been told that Camberwell Baths reopening has slipped by 4 months to Feb 2011. It closed November 2009 and was due to open this Autumn.
Reason given for this delay is that extra £200,000 added in May to £3M budget. This sounds implausible reason to add 4 months delay as why has it taken over 3 months to work out a delay will occur.
How can £3M be spent in 12 months but the extra £0.2M adds 4 months delay?
Can’t be bad weather. No vandalism or burglary.
Inexplicable.
Well, two reasons. Either the extra 0.2 mill was used in staffing costs to decide that there would be a delay of 3 months, which took them 3 months to estimate (such is the reputed waste in local councils), or the fires in Russia which have pushed up the price of wheat are causing the contractors to spend more on their sandwiches at lunchtime, and as the sandwiches are more expensive they rightly feel they should spend a total of two months extra in the appreciation of them – that’s about 3 minutes-worth of enjoyment per worker per day. I’m no expert in this field.
