I was dismayed to see that the Labour led Southwark Council have decided to rip-off car clubs in Southwark. Each car club car typically replaces 25 private vehicles. So a great way to help manage residential parking on our parking pressured streets.

Southwark Council started its support of car clubs by providing specially reserved car and van parking on public highways. To pay for the set-up costs Southwark has been charging £450 per parking space. This always felt astronomic but they’re now planning to increase these fees by 44% to £650!

What a rip-off.

This will kill any car club expansion and quite possibly see a retrenchment with spaces being handed back to Southwark. Its as if Labour have never heard of global warming or the Stern Report.
